In 1970, The Lorma College, School of Nursing was founded by Dr. Rufino N. Macagba Sr. & Dr. Crispina L. Macagba and headed by Mrs. Encarnita B. Macaroy was
established with barely 86 nursing students enrolled during the first semester and 74 nursing
students during the second semester of that same year. The Curriculum then covered Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology and Fundamentals of
Nursing with the title of Graduate in Nursing (G.N.).
VISION
We envision Lorma Colleges, College of Nursing to be the model of
nursing education in the Region emphasizing quality, Christian values, and
leadership skills locally responsive but relevant for global competitiveness.
MISSION
Lorma College of Nursing affirms its role in empowering the students to
become competent and compassionate professionals through relevant,
innovative, challenging and effective curriculum and instruction, research
orientation and caring environment through community services.
OBJECTIVES
- To train and produce nursing leaders for various fields, and positions in
the hospitals, communities and other health agencies that can work
cooperatively with the health team in mobilizing and assisting the
individuals, families and communities to become self-reliant. - To provide opportunities for the development of research attitude in
Nurses for continued improvement of professional competence by
undertaking studies on Nursing Education and Practice, Management and
Community Health. Further, to encourage dissemination and utilization
of the research findings. - To establish and sustain linkage with the Alumni as our partners for
personal and professional growth as well as for community development. - To encourage social consciousness and greater awareness of the socio-
economic situation of the community through active involvement in
community affairs.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a 4-year academic degree in science and nursing
principles. The completion of the degree requires finishing courses in general education such as
math, humanities, and social sciences; major and professional courses. The professional courses
have corresponding Related Learning Experiences (RLE). This bachelor’s degree prepares the
graduates for professional roles and advance studies. This is equivalent to Level 6 of the
Philippine Qualifications Framework.
The Related Learning Experiences are application of the nursing theories in the
skills laboratory, hospital, and community settings. It comprises of 2,703 hours which
prepare a student to become a caring, committed, and competent professional nurse.
Likewise, 677 hours are allotted for Self-Directed Learning to provide chance for
each student to diagnose their own learning needs and formulate own learning goals.
Furthermore, the program provides a strong foundation to strengthen the
professional nurse’s pursuit for excellence in nursing leadership, in nursing education,
nursing practice and nursing research.

- The Caduceus – represents compassion, specifically the care, concern and
kindness of nurses; life; and power of healing. - The Newton’s Atom – signifies Nursing as a Science which comprises a
substantive knowledge of the discipline. - The Nurse’s Cap – connotes service to humankind and exemplifies the service-
orientedness of the Nursing Profession. - The Nightingale’s Lamp – a guiding light which denotes inspiration,
encouragement, and a symbol of hope. It stands for comfort, kindness,
gentleness, courage, and an unwavering commitment to duty which Nurses are
known for. - The Laurel Leaves – indicates knowledge and honor. Nursing is an honorable
profession that requires vast body of knowledge to understand health, illness,
and those affecting both.
1994-1998 – College of Nursing ranked 1 among private higher education institutions of Region I 1999-2003 – Again, the College of Nursing ranked 1 among private higher education institutions of Region I under category B with 100 to 999 examinees.

Lorma Colleges ranked number 5 nationwide with a rating of 62.6% in the June 2009 Nursing Licensure Examinations among all Nursing schools in the Philippines with above 500 examinees (collated from the Board of Nursing website) It also ranked number 1 among private higher institutions of Region 1 in the Nursing Licensure Examination (1994-1998), again in 1999-2003 under category B (with 100 to 999 examinees).
2003 – The Lorma Nursing annexed in Tan Yao Building, Pagdaraoan, San Fernando City, was opened to accommodate the increasing number of students.
2006 – Joseph Gacoscos won bronze medal in Taekwondo
2009 – College of Nursing ranked 5 nationwide with a rating of 62.6% in the Philippines with above 500 examinees.
2011-
- Marie Joy Senaratana was the Champion in the First Regional Nursing Quiz Bee on February 2011.
- Brylle Pantollano was declared 1 st Runner–up in the 3 rd Regional Nursing Research Congress on February 2011.
- Ms. Shaia B. Mayo, Clinical Instructor was awarded as the Most Outstanding Teacher of the Year, S.Y. 2010-2011 by Lorma Colleges on June 2011.
- Yvonne Thea G. Visaya won 3 rd Place in Poster Making Contest during the Disaster Consciousness Month, July 18, 2011.
- Clinton Pimentel and Ronnie Marl Zamora won 2nd Place in the Anti-Drug Poster Making Contest, August 2011.
- The First Nursing Week Celebration was conducted on October 2011.

Conducted the 1st Interdisciplinary Research Forum on October 11, 2014 and published a Special Issue of the College of Nursing Research Journal, a compendium of the research entries.
2015 – Published the 4th issue of the College of Nursing Faculty Research Journal and the 5th issue of the College of Nursing Student Research Journal.
Student Research entitled “Antibacterial Activity of Sineguelas Bark (Spondias Purpurea Anacardiaceae) Against Streptococcus Pyogenes” won 2nd Place in the Poster Presentation during the 2015 Region I Health Research and Development Consortium held in Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation, San Carlos City, Pangasinan on February 27, 2015.
Likewise, the same study won 1st Runner Up in the Nursing Oral Presentation during the 8th ADPCN Region 1 Nursing Students Congress and 7th Nursing Students Research Forum held in Northern Christian College, Laoag City last March 6, 2015.
The study entitled “Intimate Touch in Nursing: The Patients’ Perspective” was FINALIST to the Oral Presentation during the 16th Regional Nursing Research Congress held in Saint Louis University, Baguio City on March 5, 2015

The study entitled “Flipped Classroom Pedagogy in Enhancing the Learning Experiences among Student Nurses” won the BEST POSTER during the 16th Regional Nursing Research Congress held in Saint Louis University, Baguio City on March 5, 2015.
Attained LEVEL IV ACCREDITATION STATUS, the Highest Level granted by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP).
Citation was received from Brgy. Sta Rosa, San Juan, La Union on December 17, 2015 for the invaluable, indefatigable and dedicated service rendered during the Medical-Dental Service as part of the committed community extension program.
2016 – Andy Amor Pulido, TOP 10 Board Topnotcher in the Nursing Licensure Examination given on November 29-30, 2016.
Highest passing percentage in the Licensure Examination was attained with 97.3% for the First takers and 100% for Batch 2016.
Published Volume 6 College of Nursing Research Journal for the students and Volume 7 College of Nursing Research Journal for the faculty.
Faculty and students joined the Regional Research Forum in Laoag City and Baguio City for their research oral and Poster presentation.
Received a Citation from Pacific Partnership for the active participation of the department in their activities.
It was also recognized as “Learning Center in La Union” for masteral and doctoral degrees in Nursing Program of St. Paul University in Tuguegarao, Cagayan Valley from 2017 onward.
Received citation from Pacific Partnership for the exceptional efforts and significant contributions during the successful conduct of Pacific Partnership 2015 last August 5-15, 2015; citation was awarded on August 16, 2016 during the evaluation program conducted by the Operations Director of Pacific Partnership 2015.
Received another citation from the Municipality of Santol, La Union on April 30, 2016 in grateful recognition for being an active partner in community development especially in the promotion of health sanitation in the underserved sectors of the municipality during the 9-year administration of the Municipal Mayor.

2017 – College of Nursing is a co-host of the 7th International Conference of Nurses (ICoNs 7) held in Marco Polo Plaza, Cebu City.
College of Nursing received a Certificate of Recognition being one of the “Most Active Research Institution” during the 7th International Conference of Nurses.
The research study of Ms. Marisol T. Jomaya and James Louie Ostrea entitled ” The Heart Swelled with A Sea of Tears: Nurses Caring For HIV-Positive Patients ” won Second Place during the 7th International Conference of Nurses.
